Choosing the right bench for your piano

An antique piano bench is a lovely addition to every home. Often used as a storage unit as well, a bench typically has a lid that opens, providing storage for sheet music and other piano accessories. Though a practical piece of furniture, it is also a wonderful focal point. The bench may be crafted in fine wood and finished with a highly durable, beautiful shine or have a Victorian tapestry or brocade material used for the seat. Other options include choosing a bench with thick padding and a leather top. Some  benches are refinished and then covered with a satin fabric, giving the appearance of wealth and luxury. When playing the piano, an antique  bench will ensure that you sit in comfort while having ample storage space for your music.

When choosing an the antique bench it’s a good idea to look at the legs of the bench and how they are crafted. Many antique and Victorian piano benches have claw feet and detailed etchings on the legs. These not only enhance the appearance of the piano bench, but increase its value as well. Since a beautiful,   bench is likely to become a treasured heirloom, check with the legs and select the most beautiful bench you can afford.

In addition to the antique  bench, another choice is the piano stool. A piano bench is a rectangular shape, while a piano stool is round and considerably smaller. If you are looking for a seating option that doubles as a storage unit, then choose a rectangular one.

You can add your own choice of colored piano bench cushion  for a look that you will be pleased with. Some  are solid wood and don’t contain cushioning. Though this is practical, it can become a bit uncomfortable if playing for a long period of time. By adding a bench cushion to your bench you can play in comfort and in style.
